"Life is for" song

"I woke up this morning and I didn't have a hat." -Sam Myers

Ever see these at Walmart or the craft store?  I have.  And now I'm going to get one.  Sam has made my decision for me.  "I woke up this morning and I didn't have a hat.  And it's going to snow."

I love it when boys sew and do crafts.  It reminds us all that sewing is power.  The power to imagine something and then make it with our bare hands.

The Bitch of Fear

All right.  I feel strongly that the following statement, spoken oh so casually by one of the brightest minds and fastest tongues I know, was worthy of immediate immortalizing.  Second best to a tattoo, I turned to the cheaper and less painful option of stitching into my favorite t shirt.  Truer words were hardly ever spoken.

"Here's the thing about fear.  If you don't recognize it, and call it out for what it is, it will own your ass forever.  You will be the bitch of fear."

"Change" song

My brilliant genius stylist-and sister Elizabeth, and I, spoke today on the phone.  I told her how, even though my hair is fried to a crisp, and faded to death, and we are SO doing hair surgery in the morning... people KEEP telling me lately that I look like Tori Amos.  So...she goes, "Oh, great.  Cause you're going for the suicidal agnostic look."

Ha!  What??!??!

And I KNEW I had to use that as a lyric in a song.  Immediately.  (laughing)

I love my friends and I love my life, and I am so glad to be surrounded by such funny, smart and wonderful people.
I feel so...rich.

(lyrics)

limitless reaches of space
behind each of your faces
stare me down
a labyrinth of ladders and chutes
going no place

break me out of this case
joint or the head of which
i cannot place
say i'm pretty, yeah, say that i'm pretty
don't let it hit you on your way

oh great, i was going for the
suicidal agnostic look
so why's it always on the day
before the day
everything's about to change (for good)

life's a spinning prism
it is not a prison
so keep it turning in the light
keep it turning in the light.

Murder Your Darlings

The dean of Thomas Moore College once told us that the secret to good writing is to "Murder your darlings."

I was going to entitle this brief post Selling your Soul.

I was thinking that putting a drawing into a frame, and then taking it somewhere, putting it someplace, makes it appear to be art.  Simply because someone bothered to say it was, by framing it.

These are one dollar frames from The Dollar Tree.  Presto, Change-o.

Who buys art?

I was thinking of trying to find out.

Early Manuscript

This is an early manuscript of Jason Debow's work, age eight, three days before his ninth birthday and...strangely, ONE DAY before My Actual Birth.  Let's see where his head was at:
